What is the difference between megabits and megabytes?
A bit is a single character of data (expressed as a 1 or a 0). It takes eight bits to make a byte. There are about 1 million bits in a megabit (Mb), and about one million bytes in a megabyte (MB). Memory chips (the small black components on a module) are usually measured in megabits, whereas memory modules are almost always referred to in megabytes.
