A film can be both a matinee and a feature film.  A matinee usually refers to a film that plays at a theater earlier in the day.  These tend to cost less money to see than later showings as to increase theater traffic at earlier times since most people see films before or after dinner (later in the day).

Most of the films you see in theaters are features.  A feature film is a film that is considered to be ‘full length’ which is usually 80 miuntes or more.  There are also short films which can be anywhere from a minute or so to more than thirty minutes.  Usually they are 30 minutes or less, though.
