What is the difference between man carrying kites and man lifting kites?
A ‘man-carrying kite’ actually carries the man inside or upon the kite whereas a ‘man-lifting kite’ lifts into the air and carries the man below it at some distance. One of the earliest examples of a man-carrying kite is found in the legend of the famous samurai warrior Minamoto-no-Tametomo. This warrior was exiled, with hi son to a deserted island. Not wishing his son to spend the rest of his life there he built a huge kite to carry him away to the mainland.
