What is the difference between M1A1-AIM and M1A2 Abrams tanks?
The biggest difference is that the M1A2 has a Commanders Independent Thermal Viewer and the M1A1 AIM does not (The tank commander CAN fire the main gun and coaxial machine gun from the CITV). The AIM (Abrams Integrated Management) program was designed to completely refurbish an M1A1 tank to new condition with many upgrades that digitize the tanks computer system with emphasis on an embedded diagnostic system (it tells you what is wrong with itself). The M1A2 SEP v2 is the latest version of the M1 tank family and is much more technologically advanced than even the AIM tank. It is also costs a lot more to produce. SEP’s have better night vision capabilities, more advanced fire control, an extensive armor package upgrade, dual redundant digital traffic routing systems, integrated FBCB2 (a sort of high-tech military secure internet)……and a bunch of other cool stuff.
