What is the difference between Lightstreamer and the mobile push technology standard WAP2.0?
There is something in common between Lightstreamer and WAP Push (both are devoted to “push” data from the server to the client in an asynchronous fashion) but there are also many differences. Basically WAP Push can be considered an extension to the SMS mechanism (same logic, even though it has some more technical features). Below are the main differences between WAP Push and Lightstreamer: • Lightstreamer does not depend on specific features of the carrier’s network infrastructure, so it does not need to support protocols like Push OTA (Push Over-The-Air) that WAP push requires. Any mobile network is sufficient for Lightstreamer to push data, because it only relies on standard Internet protocol (TCP/IP) and it works in exactly the same way, whether it is used on a fixed or mobile network. • WAP Push implements “push”. Lightstreamer implements “streaming/push”. Basically the difference is in the frequency of the updates. With streaming, you can have a seamless flow of data that continua
