What is the difference between license and appointment renewals?

0

Most states have a license renewal process that takes place between the agent and the state insurance department. The insurance department will mail a renewal notice in advance of when the renewal is due. Renewing your license may require a fee, a letter of certification if it is a non-resident license, and/or continuing education. Most states also have an appointment renewal process that takes place between WRL and the state insurance department. We will contact either you or your broker/dealer in advance of the appointment renewal deadline to inquire if you wish to maintain your appointment with WRL in the state in question. Renewing the appointment may require a fee from you, of which you will be advised when applicable. If you choose not to renew the appointment, we will send confirmation to you in writing that your appointment has been terminated.
