What is the difference between “latent” and “manifest” Orientalism?
Latent Orientalism refers to aspects of Asian ethos which are covertly or subjectively a part of Oriental culture, but which are not visible, at least to outside observers, if not anthropologists. Manifest Orientalism are the visible, overt features of Asian culture, such as clothing, architectural styles, calligraphy, and artistic creations.
