In the past KONTAKT 4 PLAYER and KONTAKT were different programs and plug-ins. Starting with KONTAKT 4 the Player functionality is integrated as a mode so that only one application is necessary. The immediate benefit is that engine improvements or features are automatically part of KONTAKT 4 PLAYER. Note that all application and documentation references are to KONTAKT 4.
