Solid Koa is as it sounds – the entire moulding is made of Koa wood. In earlier times, when Koa was more widely available, the only option was to make things (frames, furniture, etc.) with solid Koa. Today, technology and the lack of available Koa trees has forced framers and other woodworkers to make traditional items using veneer. Koa veneer is real Koa, made from the highest-grade Koa trees. The wood is cut into “chunks” and the veneer process involves “slicing” these Koa chunks into thin sheets and applying these sheets to a less expensive, but quality, wood species.
