To put this in perspective, knowledge fits in a hierarchy: Data + context = Information + understanding = Knowledge + experience = Understanding + time/repetition/variety of problems = Wisdom A content management system mainly deals in data or at best information. It does not understand the information it contains it merely holds and secures it for use by other systems. A Knowledge Management system should understand the information it is holding.and be able to process this information in response to queries from users as a minimum.. At best it should influence/guide the information the users uses in the performance of their work.
