What is the difference between “Intranet”, “Internet” and a “Portal”?

Internet means “net between”, and is indeed a network between sites all over the globe. Intranet mean “net within” and refers a smaller network typically used by a single company. Technically if you have a home network that uses TCP/IP (as most do nowadays) it is an intranet, they are not often referred to that way. Portal could have a number of meanings, and I’m not sure exactly what is meant here, without some context.
