What is the difference between intelligent and dumb terminals?

0

Dumb terminals refer to the old style green screen terminals that predominated in the era of mainframes. They had no hardware in them, bar the connection to the mainframe. They had no graphics capabilities, no sound. Intelligent terminals refer either to desktop PCs that are used to access servers, and do work on locally such as spreadsheets etc. However intelligent terminals can also be refer-ed to in cases such as workstations. These do not have any expansion slots or hard drives , but they do have a built in operating system that give limited functionality and sound. These are good for distribution in work places where the user logs into a remote server to do their work.
