What is the difference between independent living and assisted living?

0

Independent Living does not have a medical component. Seniors “do their own thing”, although the front desk is staffed 24 hours a day in the event of an emergency. Independent Living provides one meal a day and residents have a fully equipped kitchen.

Residents who live in the independent apartments on our campus are responsible and capable of their own affairs, including their personal and financial need. The residents of assisted living require a helping hand. We provide services that focus on maximizing each person’s capabilities. Individual assistance is given on a regular basis such as personal grooming, scheduling and transportation to doctor’s appointments and administration of medications and treatments. Laundry and housekeeping is also provided.

Independent living is for active seniors who are able to manage their own lives but want the ease of having their meals, housekeeping and home maintenance taken care of. Assisted Living is for seniors who require assistance with daily living needs such as dressing, toileting and mobility. In an Assisted Living community these services are provided by registered care givers or an RN if needed.
