What is the difference between IMAP, POP, and HTML email?
Emory University is in the process of transitioning to a Microsoft (MS) Exchange Email system. Microsoft Exchange is an Email product that both sends and receives Email using its own proprietary protocols. An Email address that ends with @emory.edu may reside on either the UNIX based Eagle Email system or on the Microsoft Exchange system. One can determine which Email system on which your account resides by going to Web Interface of the Microsoft Exchange server and attempting to log in. If you are successful, then the following information does not apply to your Email account. IMAP email reads and sends mail directly from the mail server here (all email is kept on the email server). Since files are moved around less and not copied from the server to the PC all the time, it taxes the system less and provides a more reliable service.
