What is the difference between IMAP and POP?
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol): Mail stays on the server, even when the user logs in. Unless otherwise directed, all folders connected to this email account will be available for use on any computer. Optionally, the users can choose to save on the local machine. However, doing so will disallow seeing stored email at other computers. Contains a more sophisticated command set that allows users to store and organize mail on the server, instead of simply downloading and deleting it. Gives the most benefit to people who connect to a mail host using more than one computer, since an IMAP-enabled mail account will look the same on all these machines, from overall mailbox structure down to the status of individual messages, and any changes made to a mailbox on one machine become visible to the rest.
