Hydrogen peroxide (HP) is a fast-acting bleaching agent that goes to work quickly because of its unstable nature. Carbamide peroxide (CP) is a peroxide based formula that contains a filler (urea) to retard the breakdown process. Most store-bought whitening products utilize CP because of its longer shelf life. CP is about one-third the strength of HP, so a 35% CP solution is roughly equivalent to a 12% HP solution.
