Jail= a county facility that holds people awaiting trail, a place where misdemeanor offenders serve their time (misdemeanors can only get up to one year). Most jails house people for a maximum of one year. They tend to be more crowded than prisons and there is less to do. Long term relationships do not develop. There are fewer make work or rehabilitation jobs if any. Prison= a state facility were convicted felony offenders go. May be serving time for up to life. There are many different levels of prisons. Some have schools and activities some have to keep the prisoner locked up and not seeing anyone at all times. Prisons tend to be rougher than jails.
