What is the difference between High and Low Coercivity Magnetic Tapes?
The difference between HiCo and LoCo is in the amount of magnetic force required to lay down data on the magnetic tape during the encoding process. The higher the Coercivity of the tape e.g. 2700 Oersted or 4000 Oersted, the greater the magnetic force required to encode the stripe. HiCo tape is typically used in high security applications and where there is heavy swipe reader usage. The higher the Coercivity, the more permanent the information that is stored on the magnetic tape.
