What is the difference between having my sofa dryclean, as opposed to using water?
True dryclean-only fabric requires the carbon tetrachloride base solutions that can only be done at a plant in controled conditions. There are some water freeze solvents that can be used in the home, but they are largely less effective and have residue issues. Most “dry-cleaning” processes that are done in the home are done by whipping a normal shampoo into a foam and applying the foam to the fiber of the sofa while working it in with a soft brush, then extracting it using an upholstery tool. This is an effective means of cleaning furniture but it is not drycleaning. It is only “less wet” cleaning. It is important not to pay for unnecessary dry-cleaning. You can test your furniture of yourself with a small amount of soapy water. Simply apply some mildly soapy water to an inconspicuous area on your upholstery, like the side of a cushion, saturate well and allow it to dry.
