What is the difference between Glassine liner and Kraft liner?
The most accepted liner in the label industry is the glassine liner. The name comes from its main feature – transparency (glass > glassine). Transparency is needed for photo detection of label ends to allow synchronization of the label applicator to the manufacturing line in automatic labeling or in thermal transfer printers and so on. The transparency is established by using pulp only as raw material, together with high calendaring of the paper. Kraft liner on the hand is filled with clay or other minerals for economic purposes, without super calendaring – leaving the paper bulky and open with better layflat properties.
