What is the difference between Glass Blowers and Lamp workers?
The loose generic term for glass maker is glass blower, but what we do is Lamp work. Glass blowing is done with a long tube and air is blown into very hot glass creating a hollow vessel. This process differs drastically from an experienced lamp worker. A lamp worker uses solid glass (in our case, Boronex®)and works it over a 2500 degree torch, usually with a lathe to form shapes. The glass must then be annealed to regain its original strength.
