What is the difference between ideal and very good cut? An ideal cut diamond is the best cut diamond. Many people use “very good” to describe the cut of the diamond which is just below an ideal cut. has to do with how light passes through the diamond. If I diamond is too shallow, meaning the length from top to bottom then the diamond will leak light from the sides and cause a fish eye effect. If the diamond is too deep from top to bottom, then light will leak from the bottom and cause the top view to look dark. If you have an ideal cut diamond, light enters the stone internally reflecting from facet to facet producing maximum light. I hope to put up some images of these in the near future.
