What is the difference between free run eggs and free range eggs? Which is better?

In Australia we have free range eggs (from hens that live in a barn/paddock style arrangement where they can scratch and flap their wings if they want to – most expensive type), barn laid eggs (this may be your free run), where they are confined to sheds, but not in cages. We also have regular cage eggs (from battery caged hens), and just to top it off we have vegetarian eggs (where the hens have to eat a vegetarian diet) & Omega-three enhanced eggs (from hen-feed with omega-3 added). Which is better depends on whether you are asking from your perspective or the hens. Free-range is best for the hens, and some say best for humans too, but in reality all eggs are equal for humans in terms of nutrition.
