What is the difference between Format and Canvas?

When a new project is started, we usually have some specific intention of producing a collage for either electronic media (your computer screen, digital photo frame, etc.) or print (your own printer, commercial photo printing, etc.). The most important planning goes into the actual shape of the final image… the aspect ratio. We can choose either a standard size from either of the Portrait or Landscape drop down lists. Or we can manually input pixels, inches or centimeters. We should also enter resolution and other desired parameters. When we use the Save|Print menu, our image will be sized to that called for on the Format form. The canvas, on the other hand, is the actual working space that appears on our screen. Once we have locked in our aspect ratio, in Format… we can go back and change our canvas size so we have more freedom to compose our image.
