What is the difference between FLAC and ALAC?
Apple Lossless was specially designed to be used with Apple iTunes, and it is the only lossless file format that iTunes supports. FLAC was created by a group of volunteers through the non-profit Xiph Foundation working to provide music enthusiasts with a high quality audio format that is not under the control of a corporation. Both formats are considered to be roughly equal in terms of file size and audio quality.
