What is the difference between Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD)?
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) is an umbrella term used to describe the range of disabilities caused when a woman drinks alcohol during pregnancy. This range includes Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), Partial Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (Partial FAS), Alcohol-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder (ARND), and Alcohol-Related Birth Defects (ARBD). The difference between these disorders is the extent of the physical damage and the resulting developmental and behavioral problems caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol.
