What is the difference between extrusion and baked?
The extrusion process involves steaming the ingredients as quickly as possible, usually less than 3 minutes, then extruding it under extreme pressure through a metal die. This process expands the food with air creating a uniform shape. Extruding puffs up the dog kibble while removing moisture, leaving you with a less dense product with less weight per cup.
