What is the difference between Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils?
Essential Oils are derived directly from plants usually via steam distillation. They have no synthetic components, and come from a single plant. Fragrance Oils contain synthetically produced components, and may consist of multiple fragrances blended together to make the desired scent; alternatively multiple Essential may Oils blended together and referred to as a ‘Fragrance Oil’. If you are seeking the homeopathic benefits of oils, you should use only Essential Oils or Essential Oil blends, because the synthetic scents would of course not contain the natural properties from the plants.
Essential oils – come from the world of Nature. The essential oil is the “essence” or life’s blood of the plant from which it was taken. The most common method of extraction is steam distillation using various parts of plants, roots, grasses, trees, shrubs, flowers and herbs. Essential oils are known to have healing and soothing qualities to the skin and to the spirit. There are many scriptural references to the use of plants and herbs in the Bible, their uses are written of in the ancient hieroglyphs of Egypt, and are the root of eastern medicine. Fragrance oils – are made by man, they are synthetic copies of what nature has to offer and the quality and strength of their scents vary widely between companies, trust me…..we have tried several and they are not created equal. After several cheapie smelling fragrance failures we have established a relationship with a company that sells only Top Shelf Quality, cosmetic grade fragrance oils.
