What is the difference between Elders and Deacons?
According to Scripture (I Timothy 4), elders are the spiritual leaders of the church who provide the vision, affection, instruction, protection and correction of God. They are the ones who are responsible to God for the direction and health of the church. At First Church, elders are nominated by the elders, deacons, and pastoral staff, then they are voted on by the congregation. The deacons are servant ministry leaders. They lead ministries and are responsible to the elders. Deacons are nominated and voted on by the congregation.
