ECCE stands for Extracapsular Cataract Extraction. The wound made in ECCE is larger than that of phacoemulsification and requires suturing. Phacoemulsification uses a small incision which is about 2.75 mm or less. This results in faster wound healing and less induces astigmatism which gives the patient faster visual rehabilitation.
