What is the difference between DS9097, DS9097E, and the DS9097U?

The DS9097 is the original Serial Port adapter. It relies on the computer for generation of the proper timing pulses. It is no longer in active production and not recommended for new designs. The DS9097E is a DS9097 with 1-Wire EPROM programming capability. An external +12VDC power supply is required for EPROM programming. This also is not in active production. The DS9097U is the latest Serial Port adapter. It uses the DS2480B chip for generation of the 1-Wire timing pulses (instead of the PC). Its abilities include Overdrive, Strong Pullup, and faster computer communications. The DS9097U requires some software changes when replacing the DS9097.
