What is the difference between dropping and withdrawing from a class?

0

You can drop a class without charge if you drop within the add/drop deadline. If you decide you do not wish to attend MSC you must officially withdraw from all classes. Refund percentages are based on the withdrawal deadlines outlined in your catalog.

If you drop a class by the official drop deadline, you will receive a refund and the class will be erased from your record. If you withdraw from a class after the deadline, you won’t receive a refund and a “W” will appear on your permanent record.

Students may adjust their schedule (add/drop classes) through the first 5 days of the semester. If you change your schedule during this period, you are adding and/or dropping classes and there is no academic or financial aid penalty. At the end of the 5th day of classes each semester, your schedule is locked and you are required to earn a certain minimum of those credit hours, as detailed in the Satisfactory Academic Progress policy. After the 5th day of classes, any “drops” are now considered withdrawals (W). Although a W will not affect your GPA, a W will appear on your transcript and will be counted in your overall and semester attempted hours.
