What is the difference between domestic adoption and international adoption?
A domestic adoption is done in a United States court, and the adopted child is an American Citizen. An international adoption is done in the court system of the adopted child’s resident country. Domestic Adoption: There are different way to go about a domestic adoption, the most common being “private” and “state” adoption. A private adoption is customarily done with the assistance of a private adoption agency or an attorney and involves some sort of agreement between the birth-parents and the adoptive parents. A child can be adopted until the age of 18, however most adoptions are arranged prior to the birth of the infant. In order for a child to be available for adoption, the parental rights have to be surrendered by both parents. The birth mother can specify if the birth father is “unknown”, but cannot have his parental rights relinquished without his approval. Therefore, if the birth father learns of his status as a parent, he can petition the courts for custody of his biological chi
