What is the difference between dlink router and access point?

0

A plain access point just has a single ethernet port to add wireless to an existing network as part of that network. Although, they are simpler, they are often more expensive than a wireless router because they are less commonly used. For the cheapest wireless router, the wireless is an access point for the LAN side of the router. Some routers can bridge between WAN and LAN. And some routers can actually be configured as “wireless client bridge” to connect wired devices to a wireless network (I do that for my desktop and an old laptop). But some routers need 3rd party firmware to act as a wireless client, or to relay wireless to extend its range.
