What is the difference between dill pickles and kosher dill pickles?
Kosher pickles are made with dill and garlic. They’re not particularly kosher, though they can be if they’re supervised by a Rabbi. But the flavor of the dill-and-garlic pickle is so popular, and so closely linked to the kosher food stalls in New York where they were first made, that the name sticks. Dill pickles are your basic pickled cucumbers, with dill weed (but not garlic) added towards the end of processing. Sources: http://www.nyfoodmuseum.org/_pkwhat.
