What is the difference between Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis?

0

Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are both chronic disorders causing gastrointestinal inflammation. CD (Crohn’s Disease) causes inflammation in the small intestine, yet, can affect any part of the digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus; whereas UC (Ulcerative Colitis) causes inflammation in the large intestine (colon), leading to small sores or ulcers. UC only affects the inner layer of the intestine. Each disease is treated with various medications and requires if necessary different surgical options, therefore it is so important to differentiate between them.

Crohn’s disease can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus. The inflammation of Crohn’s disease can be patchy and noncontinuous and can deeply penetrate into the bowel wall. Even if the affected part of a Crohn’s disease bowel is removed, the disease may recur.
