What is the difference between Cloisonne and Soft Enamel lapel pins?
Always wanted to find an answer, too 🙂 I think the reply given above is very informative. My company usually orders die cast lapel pins ( ordered at http://www.pinsource.com/en/products/cast ), these pins look very nice, I am proud to wear stuff like this to be identificated as my team’s member.
A. The primary difference between these two types of pins is the coloring process. While soft enamel pins use a traditional enamel paint, Cloisonne pins are made using a glass-like resin. A characteristic of soft enamel pins, is that the paint is only filled in even so that the surface of the pin is Raised vs. Recessed, where the painted areas are recessed, and the trimming metal surfaces are raised. Cloisonne pins are painted in a fashion where the glass-like resin is filled to meet the surface of the metal, offering a very smooth, highly polished appearance. Epoxy coatings can be added to the surface of Soft Enamel lapel pins in order to provide a glossy surface to the pin.
