What is the difference between citation, bail, bond, and OR?
These are all procedures for getting out of jail while a case is in process. The police decide whether to give us citations and release us. The judge decides whether to offer us bail, bond or OR. Citation: Citing out is a type of release from custody in which you sign a citation, a promise to appear in court. It’s usually a form that looks like a traffic ticket. If everyone has decided to cite out, it is important to make sure that the people who are at risk (non-U.S. citizens, those with warrants or prior convictions, and those on probation) get cited out first. Bail: Bail is money you pay to the court, to be forfeit if you don’t appear at scheduled hearings. A bail bondsman can put up the money for you, but you have to give the bondsman a percentage of the total bail (usually 10 percent), which s/he keeps as payment.
