What is the difference between choking and gagging?
• Choking occurs when an infant can’t breathe because the airway is blocked or they have inhaled liquids into the windpipe. If the airway is blocked for long enough, it can be fatal. • Gagging occurs when an object or liquid stimulates the gag reflex at the back of the throat, through direct or non-direct contact. Stimulating the gag reflex can also cause vomiting.
