What is the difference between certificates and labels?
Certificates are a standardised auditing tool. They specify that a given quantity of renewable energy has been produced by a given source, in a given period. These proofs of origin may be traded. However, certificates neither guarantee that the green energy product is of premium quality, nor that is contributing to new renewable generation. A label guarantees the environmental quality of a certain green energy product. A label also provides an assured and trusted means of stimulating the development of clean and renewable energy and contributing to sustainable development.
