What is the difference between CDs and DVDs if you want to store only text data and photos?
The technology is different, but from your end-user perspective, the only major difference is capacity. A CD can hold about 700 MB worth of digital data (text, photos, music, movies doesn’t really matter) while a DVD holds at least seven times that much (4.7 GB for single-layer, single-side DVD). Blank CDs are usually a little cheaper than blank DVDs, so if you have less than 700 MB worth of files and are budget-conscious, you might as well use a CD. If you have a lot of data to store, I’d recommend DVDs, since they take up less space than multiple CDs and are probably more economical on a per-MB basis. However, you should also keep in mind that some older computers can read CDs but not DVDs.
