What is the difference between Category 1 and Category 2 conferences?

The differences are as follows Category 1 Category 1 activities are pre-planned CME programs (or materials) sponsored by an organization or institution accredited by the ACCME or the state medical societies (i.e. OSMA) in accordance with the Essential areas and elements, as well as the standards for commercial support. The value of these activities is one credit for each hour of participation – at least 40 credits per licensure period must be earned in this category. Category 2 Category 2 activities include CME activities with non-accredited sponsorship, medical teaching, articles, publications, books, and exhibits, non-supervised individual CME activities, and other meritorious learning experiences. One credit is given for each hour of participation. There is a limit of 60 credits per licensure period for this category.
