What is the difference between butt-welding and overlapping methods of aluminum joining?
The overlapping (ultrasonic) method is a mechanical and “cold” way of joining the aluminum foil edges. In this method both edges are put above each other, which causing a thicker layer at this point, causing an oval shaped pipe. Since the thickness is not homogenic, there might be an uneven strain on the internal layer. This might cause weak areas and failure under a high internal pressure. The butt-welding method is based on the “fusion welding” method, in which both edges are being really welded, under high energy and high temperature. In this newest innovative method, a LASER technology (used by Golan) is applying a very strong, accurate, homogenic and high quality welding. The pex pipe is completely symmetric and round, with no weak areas.
