What is the difference between budeprion and abilify?
Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban) is an antidepressant that acts as dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. Most antidepressants (like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil) do not have any significant interaction with dopamine. The increase within dopamine has some stimulating effects, typically causes some weight loss, more vigour and a reduction in depression. It is a very awfully distant cousin of amphetamine but Wellbutrin is not addictive. Abilify is an atypical antipsychotic that interacts with dopamine, serotonin, and histamine. It is very unique due to the exact receptors that it works near. Abilify recently became FDA approved as an adjacent treatment for those with refractory depression (ie people would take a classic drug such as Zoloft and Abilify). Many ethnic group have a reduction in their depression due to abilify but some do not respond economically and some people can have a worsening of depression.
