What is the difference between BS in aircraft maintenance technology and aircraft maintenance engineering?
To work as a licensed aircraft mechanic (in the US), you require only an FAA mechanic’s rating. No school is required, only 18 months experience in either airframe or engine practical work, or a total of 30 months in both sub-specialties. This qualifies you to sit for either the airframe, engine or combined exam. Approve schools may be substituted for the experience requirement, but are not required. Some approved schools also offer college level course work, such as the bachelor of Science level courses you are asking about. The advantage to the student is that s/he graduates with a college degree, but this has no bearing on your ability to become a licensed mechanic. The differences between a degree that uses “technology” and one that uses the term “engineering” is basically more math and academic courses that are required to allow the school to confer an “engineering” degree.
