What is the difference between bronchitis and pneumonia?

0

Bronchitis is inflammation of the bronchi, the tubes that air passes through in the lungs. Pneumonia is an inflammation of pretty much any part of the lung EXCEPT the bronchi. Usually it is inflammation or fluid accumulation in the alveoli, the air sacs. It is usually more of a problem because it affects the place where oxygen and carbon dioxide are actually exchanged between the air and blood. It can be viral, bacterial, fungal, from inhalant injury, anything that could cause inflammation or tissue injury.
