What is the difference between bromide and chlorine?

that bromine is a little bit less harsh a chemical than chlorine, but bromine breaks down in sunlight, while chlorine does not. therefore, the conclusion, (as implied by the instructions in my new-spa kit) is that if your spa is left uncovered in the sun for long periods of time, then you need to use chlorine, but otherwise, you will be happier using bromine. Sources: we got a free used spa… and it was worth what we paid for it.
