What is the difference between BPM and a BPMS?
Many software vendors would have you believe that their product, or a specific suite of products (often referred to as a product stack), is BPM (Business Process Management). They “confuse” BPM with BPMS as they are trying to sell software. What is being described is usually, if not always, a BPMS (Business Process Management System). BPMS is one component of a BPM strategy and BPM is not to be confused with technology (i.e. BPMS) While a BPMS is a suite of products from one or more software vendors integrated into a single coherent system and always refers to specific software products, BPM is vendor-neutral. It should never require a specific vendor or technology and may not even require any technology in certain instances.
