What is the difference between Black Metal and Blackened Death Metal music?
“Blackened Death Metal”? Are you sure they weren’t just making fun of you? Especially considering that you’re talking about bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth, which are way too mainstream to even be considered black metal. BM is underground, it’s obscure, and its philosophy involves independent publishing and putting their souls (or lack of) in their music, not being owned by major record labels like Nuclear Blast, or Roadrunner. Try Gorgoroth (I think went major very briefly, but quickly recovered their old indieness), Illnath, Burzum, Mayhem. Cradle of Filth is just teen angst. Anyway, I’ve been around metal circles all my life, and this is the first time I’ve come across the phrase “blackened death metal”. It was probably just a joke. And no, black metal is not the same thing as death metal. There are significant musical differences.
