What is the difference between BIS and BES?

BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) is used to access an internet email account such as hotmail or an account provided my the mobile phone carrier. BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) is used to access a corporate email system and is required to fully access Cardiff University’s email and IT systems. Note: To fully integrate with the University IT infrastructure, Blackberry devices need the Blackberry Enterprise Service (BES) to be installed. University supplied devices will have this service enabled – but Blackberry devices bought elsewhere will not; and will not therefore be able to fully exploit the supported university service. Even if BES is installed on a device, INSRV will not add the device to our servers.
